AFCAT Assessment: Forms of Commission
The AFCAT examination is held to award the following two types of commissions:
Permanent Commission (PC) for Men: Those who join as PC officers will serve until the age of superannuation in their respective branches according to their rank.
Short Service Commission (SSC) for Men & Women
- The engagement period for SSC Officers in the Flying Branch (Men and Women) is 14 years from the date of commissioning (non-extendable).

AFCAT 2025 Candidate Selection Process
The Indian Air Force will issue call letters to all candidates who pass the AFCAT 2 2025, requiring them to attend the second stage of selection, which is AFSB Testing.
AFSB Testing Stage 1
- This stage consists of the following two evaluations:
- Officer Intelligence Rating Test.
- Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP&DT)
- Stage 1 is known as the screening test, and candidates who fail to clear it will be eliminated and will not be invited to AFSB Testing Stage 2.
AFSB Testing Stage 2
- All candidates who qualify in Stage 1 are required to participate in AFSB Stage 2 and complete the following tests:
- Psychological Tests: These written tests are administered by licensed psychologists.
- Group Tests: These tests involve both mental and physical tasks to assess candidates on various mental and physical aspects.
- AFSB Interview: In this segment, the interviewing officer conducts a personal interview with the candidate.
- Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) Test: This test is obligatory only for candidates who have applied for the Flying Branch.
