Agni Nakshatram Date 2025 and Time

Agni Nakshatram Date 2025 and Time, Kathiri Veyil Start, End Dates

In Tamil Nadu, Agni Nakshatram, one of the main festivals honoring Lord Murugan, is observed with great fervor and passion. It is observed from May 4 through May 28 for a total of twenty-five days. Perhaps the only Hindu holiday celebrated in the hottest month of May is Agni Nakshatram. The Sun’s celestial passage through the star Krittika marks the beginning of the 25-day Agni Nakshatram celebrations.

Additionally, the Sun’s passage through the first quarter of Rohini Star and the third and fourth quarters of Bharani Nakshatra defines the Agni Nakshtram era. This star, also known as “Agni Nakshtram” in Tamil, is the source of the name of this Hindu festival. Lord Murugan temples in Tiruttani, Palani, Palamuthirsolai, Swamimalai, and Tiruchendur, to mention a few, celebrate Agni Nakshtram in all its splendor.

Agni Nakshatram 2025 is on May 04 Sunday

Rituals during Agni Nakshatram

The primary locations for celebrating Agni Nakshatram are Lord Murugan temples, particularly in Palani, Tamil Nadu. During this time, thousands of Hindu devotees visit this location. They fervently worship Lord Murugan in order to receive His divine favors. Devotees conduct the “Pradakshina” of the sacred hill, Giri Valam, during the Agni Nakshtram era. Both in the morning and the evening, the Pradakshina is done. Many people think that the scent of the therapeutic herbs that grow on the Giri Valam promotes mental and physical well-being.

Additionally, female devotees adorn the Kadamba flowers, which are thought to be Lord Murugan’s favorite flower, when taking the Pradakshina. In the Palani temple, Lord Murugan’s “Abhishekam” is performed every day with water during the Agni Nakshatram era. After then, this water is gathered and given the name “Theertha.” The Theertha was distributed to all of the devotees on the last day of Agni Nakshatram. Additionally, it is said to be highly lucky to spill this water in wells and temples. This Theertha water is even carried home by some of the believers.

Significance of Agni Nakshatram

For devoted followers of Lord Murugan, the festival of Agni Nakshtram is extremely important from a religious standpoint. Hindu mythology states that Lord Murugan is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. He is referred to as the God of warriors. Lord Murugan is known by several names, including Skanda, Kartike, and Subrahmaniam.

Any voyage made during this time is said to be fruitless, illnesses will take longer to heal, money given during this time will not be reimbursed, and other terrible things will happen. It is widely believed that because of the extreme heat wave that occurs during Agni Nakshatram, this time period was not selected for conducting auspicious activities even in ancient times.
