Disaster Response Force (SDRF) 2025

The former Homeguards were created in the aftermath of the Indo-Pak war in 1965 and were placed on consolidated salaries. They quickly established their presence through comprehensive training initiatives and call-up responsibilities, which resulted in their organization into two battalions, the 1st and 2nd. These battalions were integrated into a graded pay scale on June 1, 1979.

In recognition of their exemplary performance and commitment, both battalions were made permanent by the State Government, thereby aligning them with the regular workforce of the Force. In 1989, with the introduction of the voluntary Homeguards scheme at the national level, the names of these two battalions were officially changed to Auxiliary Police. Personnel from these battalions are deployed across the state, with nearly one company stationed in each district. These companies undertake various responsibilities, including static guarding, law enforcement, traffic control, and security operations.

The roots of Civil Defence in India can be traced back to the Air Raid Precautions (ARP) Organization, which was established and managed by the Ministry of Defence during World War II to safeguard civilian lives and property, as well as to maintain production and economic activities during times of war. Following the Chinese aggression in 1962 and the Indo-Pak conflict in 1965, there was a thorough reassessment of the Civil Defence policy and its scope, culminating in the enactment of the Civil Defence Act in 1968.
