Duties for Mizoram Home Guard Vacancy 2025
The Mizoram Home Guards was founded on December 6, 1971, initially functioning under a designated company strength. Captain (Retd) Malsawmliana was appointed as the District Commandant and later became the full-time District Commandant after the reorganization of the Home Guards in 1973, at which time it was officially named the Mizoram Home Guards. Major Zama (L) was appointed as the Deputy Commandant General.
During this period, several Junior Commissioned Officers and other personnel were assigned to newly created roles within the Mizoram Home Guards. From 1973 to 1987, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Mizoram held the position of Ex-Officio Commandant General. On August 10, 1987, the Mizoram Home Guards transitioned to operate as an independent department under the Home Department of the Government of Mizoram.
Currently, the Department comprises three main establishments:
(i) Headquarters located in Chawlhhmun, Aizawl
(ii) District Headquarters situated in Chawlhhmun, Aizawl
(iii) Central Training Institute based in Sesawng
Currently, the Mizoram Home Guards and Civil Defence Department has an authorized personnel strength of 1,322 individuals fulfilling various security functions. This workforce comprises 1,168 Home Guards Volunteers and 154 regular staff members dedicated to the Department.
